Americans will be taking fewer trips this spring compared to 2023, with weekend getaways being the most popular travel plans.

Travel Agent Central recently published an article titled "Spring Travel Down in 2024 Compared to Past Years: Stats," which shares recent data about this Spring travel season. Below is a summary of some of that information; you can read the entire article here.

  • 55% of Americans are planning to take a vacation this spring, which is the lowest recorded in the past two years. 66% In 2023 and 56% in 2022 said they were planning to travel in the spring.

  •  Among those traveling this spring, 35% are traveling for spring break vs. 41% in 2023.

  • 87% of spring travelers report they will only be taking weekend getaways.

  • Stateside vacations are the most popular at 85%, which is up from 76% in 2023.

  • 71% of travelers plan to drive to their spring destination.

  • 36% of spring travelers will stay in a vacation rental this spring, up from 31% last spring.

  • Those choosing to stay in a vacation rental over any other accommodation options cite these reasons: it provides the best value for their money, gives access to private amenities, and provides more living space during their group’s stay

  •  Of the 45% of Americans not traveling this spring, 57% cite budget-related barriers, whether it’s trying to save money, inflation, or not being in a financial position to take a vacation.

  • 22% of those not traveling in spring are planning to travel some other time in 2024, up from 15% in 2023.
